Origins and Evolution of South African House Music

The origins of South African house music can be traced back to the late 1980s and early 1990s, when it was heavily influenced by the American electronic music scene.

Over the years, the genre has evolved and diversified, with sub-genres such as Gqom, Amapiano, and Kwaito gaining popularity. These sub-genres have incorporated elements of hip-hop, jazz, and traditional African music, creating a unique sound that is distinctly South African.
